09. Do I need a Saviour?

Discussion
Imagine for a minute that you are the world’s best designer of tractors, or airplanes or party cakes. You set about to design and build the most spectacular and amazing creation for your own delight and enjoyment. Now imagine that the thing you created wants absolutely nothing to do with you... or even worse wants to be used by your enemy?
What would you do?
In the beginning there was creator God who gave His subjects everything and gave them instructions on how to live. They stuffed up, wanting to control their own lives, which is treason. God’s law demands a penalty. For all humanity. Sounds a bit harsh but that’s the law. There are no exceptions, otherwise God’s integrity would be compromised. God won’t let rebellion continue.
God’s judgement against us is expressed as decay, corruption and death.
And then there’s a second judgment when we will stand before Him and give an account of our lives, for the damage we have done and for the personal rejection of Him as our rightful ruler. God is generous and gives to us exactly what we ask for – either to be with Him; or for those who want to live without Him, destruction.
It’s a prospect we all face because we’re all guilty of rebelling against God.
This means that we can, like the Apostle Paul, call out “O wretched man that I am, who will save me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24)
We all need that saviour - that super-man who can save us from being penalised by God’s judgement. We need a Hero!
Who is that Hero? Jesus Christ! Promised for eternity and instrumental in the recovery of all things that are lost (including us).

Reflection / Questions
• God’s judgement rests on us all. Individually, by family, corporately and by nations. Without being in a relationship with God, our Father, we risk ruining everything.
So, do you need a hero?
• Who else do you know who needs a hero? Tell them about your Hero!

Prayer
Oh Lord Jesus, thank you for being my Hero. The one who is larger than life and can defeat all the terrors of the day. Please keep me close to you, guard me and guide me all the days of my life. Please never let me ignore you. Please call me to follow you. Thank you for being my Saviour.
